From the Secretary's Desk

It continues to be a very busy time for the group and the committee.

We continue with our regular volunteer activities which are generally very well attended, contributing hundreds of hours each month to protecting the environment.

The Trees for Life Bushcare workshop was well attended and well received, equipping volunteers with new knowledge and skills to work more effectively in the parks. Please let me know if you would like to attend a future workshop.

The committee is planning a 'get together' for Project Coordinators, with representation from the Department to ensure we have a consistent approach to volunteer management and safety and hear about any concerns from the coordinators about support, equipment or training needs, and generally to discuss bushcare techniques and better practices.

Member Phil Smyth led a small team of volunteers to run two successful BBQs at Bunnings raising funds for the ongoing work of the Friends.

We have a contractor working on olives in Morialta. (This is a large piece of work, which is going to require a commitment to follow up by the group.)

A good response was received to the call out for volunteers to work along Coach Road in Horsnell Gully Conservation Park.  I am sure we will get more news about this project in the coming news updates.  (Keep an eye on their Forum on the Friend's website.)

The weed mapping exercise in Black Hill Conservation Park has been completed and the committee has the weed reports and recommendations. This will help inform consideration of priorities for new and existing projects. This is another large project that will take some time to fully work through.

The committee is also looking into improving the information signage in the parks about the Friends group and how we can update them with better current information and a clear "call to action" for park users.

The Department has completed repairs on the Wildflower Garden building.

We have a date for the annual Adelaide Fungal Studies Group Foray.  This will be in Morialta Conservation Park on 19 July from 10:00. Spaces are limited and booking is essential. Register here
